The Brief:
At Solar Save Renewables, we recently undertook a project to improve home energy efficiency for a local homeowner in Llandeilo. The property relied on oil-fired central heating and an electric immersion heater, consuming between 7,000 to 8,000 kWh annually. Our goal was to significantly reduce their reliance on grid electricity.
The Solution:
Our design included 10 panels facing southeast and 6 panels facing northwest. We carefully selected an optimal inverter for efficient performance and used power optimizers to maximise efficiency for shaded solar panels. Sleek all-black panels were chosen to seamlessly blend with the 150-year-old Welsh slate roof.
After installation, their daily electricity consumption dropped to as low as 6 kWh, significantly reducing their dependence on the grid. The system's orientation effectively manages peak power output, aided by real-time monitoring software that enables swift export activation to Octopus Energy. During sunny days in May, the system generates up to 38 kW, with 10 kWh used onsite and 28 kWh exported. The estimated payback period is approximately nine years, with annual savings ensuring a strong return on investment.
Our customer now generates three-quarters of their previously imported electricity, promoting environmental sustainability while enjoying the economic benefits of their solar system.
