The Challenge

Peniel Primary School in Carmarthenshire, with over 200 pupils, wanted to reduce electricity bills, lower its carbon footprint, and set an example of sustainability for the local community. The school needed a reliable, high-performing system that was seamlessly integrated into the roof, all within the tight timeline of the half-term break to avoid disrupting pupils.

Our Solution

Solar Save Renewables delivered a complete, turnkey solution: the design, installation, and full certification of a state-of-the-art integrated in-roof solar PV system. Unlike traditional panels that sit on top of the tiles, this system replaces the roof covering itself, creating a modern, seamless finish that provides excellent energy performance and enhanced weather protection.

Our team expertly managed the entire process, including all scaffolding, electrical work, and the careful integration of the panels into the roof structure, ensuring a flawless installation within the critical one-week schedule.

Key System Specifications:

  • System Size: 40.50 kWp (100 × 405W panels)
  • Technology: SolarEdge Optimised In-Roof System
  • Annual Generation: 35.52 MWh of clean electricity
  • Carbon Savings: 6.78 tonnes of CO₂ per year (equivalent to planting 311 trees annually)
  • Energy Independence: Over 25% of the school’s energy needs now supplied directly by solar.

Our team removed roof tiles and fitted panels using an integrated mounting system. Unlike traditional panels mounted on top of tiles, in-roof solar panels are built directly into the roof. This means they look better, last longer, and provide extra weather protection for the building.

Educational & Community Benefits

“The pupils were excited to see the panels being fitted and now love checking the live energy generation display in class,” said a Peniel CP administrator

  • Hands-On Learning: Pupils now use the live PV display as a teaching tool, learning about renewable energy in real time.
  • Community Impact: The project highlights the school’s commitment to sustainability and provides a model for other schools across Carmarthenshire and the wider region.
  • Financial Savings: Significant reductions in electricity costs thanks to self-generated solar energy.
  • Environmental Benefits: Long-term carbon savings supporting Carmarthenshire Council’s environmental goals.
